James and Kellee have always led a hard life. James has spent the last several years in a group home. Kellee has had enough of her drunk and abusive father, David. Together, James and Kellee use their love for one another as strength to leave their abusive lives and set out to make a life on their own.

Social captured by the story include spousal abuse/child abuse, alcoholism, the red tape the state must go through in order to offer tangible solutions, the risk that state employees take to get around the red tape to help victims, and social programs that many cities and states are beginning to adopt to help students aging out of group homes.
